Portland Garden Tour | WEST 2017

Frequently Asked Questions

For starters, thank you so much for participating in the 2017 Portland Garden Tour | West!  This Mediterranean-like climate serves as a gardener's paradise.  With its rich soil, abundant rainfall and ample summer sunlight, there's no limit to what can flourish!  We hope you enjoy the afternoon of Sunday, September 10 viewing some of the West Hill's finest gardens, and are delighted by the natural beauty that surrounds us here in the Pacific Northwest.

Where can I eat lunch during the tour?

This year we are fortunate to have Cornell Farm as our key sponsor.  Located on Barnes Road, the nursery, garden center and recently opened café make a perfect bonus stop en route to or from the gardens. The Café at Cornell Farm is open until 3:00 p.m., and the garden store closes at 6:00.

Many people choose to pack along a lunch to eat during the tour, in order to maximize their time touring gardens.  Zupan's Market on Burnside (2340 W Burnside) has a fresh deli case for specialty salads and sandwiches. For a sit-down lunch, there is the Vista Springs Café on Vista and Spring Street, or Verde Cucina near the Sylvan exit of Hwy 26.

In what order should I tour the gardens?

You may start the tour at any garden and visit the remainder in any order.

Where can I use the restroom?

There are restrooms at the Shell gas station at the top of Patton as well as at Starbucks on the corner of SW Vista and Burnside next door to Uptown Zupan's and at Zupan’s. Vista Springs Cafe is another option, located at SW Vista and Spring streets. All locations would appreciate your patronage.  Please keep in mind that garden homeowners will not be providing restroom facilities during the tour.

I don’t have a smart phone.
Do you have directions I can follow?

One week before the tour, we will add printable directions to this website. If you buy tickets at Cornell Farms or Zupan's, you will also receive a map and directions. If you buy tickets online, we will email directions to you a few days before the tour.

How can we lend support or get involved in upcoming Portland Garden Tour West?

We welcome your support and appreciate your feedback!  Please feel free to contact the communications team at any point with helpful suggestions, or if you have a garden to nominate for next year's tour – contact Scenna Shipley at

What organization does the
Portland Garden Tour | WEST support?

Proceeds from the Portland Garden Tour | WEST and the Holiday Home Tour (in early December) benefit the Ainsworth Elementary School PTA, providing the school with enrichment materials, programs and events including a Science Fair, technology lab, literacy support, Art Fair, and tools to facilitate learning in the school’s outdoor greenspace.

Ainsworth is a public elementary school serving students in grades K-5. The school supports families from the surrounding neighborhoods and also draws students from all areas of Portland, thanks to the wonderful learning environment, supportive community and extensive special programs.

A huge thank you to the homeowners whose gardens you will visit this year. We hope tour-goers enjoy this rare opportunity to visit some of the loveliest gardens in west Portland!
